The Association of African Economy & Development (AFRECO / Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo / President: Tetsuro YANO) will announce four medical and health projects on the occasion of TICAD8. The four projects are:

  1. Introduction and technology transfer of the INOUE BALLOON, a catheter invented and developed in Japan for the treatment of valvular heart disease.

  2. Production and sales of the first made-in-Tunisia COVID-19 test kit.

  3. Training of medical engineers in Africa with Tunisia as a hub.

  4. Joint project between Japanese and Tunisian universities on the development of toiletries and their marketing.

Finally, AFRECO and the Japan Desk in Africa (Location: Tunis, Tunisia / Partner: Hédi BEN ABBES) will sign the MOU for further cooperation.

Japanese medical professionals working in Africa and embassies of African countries in Tokyo have consulted AFRECO on various issues in the field of medicine and health. Every six months between TICAD VI and TICAD7, AFRECO organized the meetings with them and collected as many needs as possible. We are proud to have contributed in no small way to developing the « Africa Health and Well-Being Initiative » announced at TICAD 7. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been working with other stakeholders to formulate medical and health projects that will surely benefit Africa’s people and take shape to achieve Universal Health Coverage. Tunisia is an ideal partner for Japanese companies and organizations that wish to expand their business and educational activities in Africa. The four projects presented in this press release are to share Japanese know-how and technology with the Tunisian people and to work together to help countries in Africa, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.
