childhood friend presented its first album Like I did for Tommy in 2025, thus completing the first part of its project begun with the EP Words from a Blue Heart last June.
The thirteen pieces capture fragments of a love story through a sound palette mixing pop, soul and alternative rap. Produced by childhood friend himself, Like I did for Tommy includes the collaboration of the singer-songwriter Laraw, who lends her voice and contributes to the writing of the texts of the closing piece “Strangers (the end)”.
Ludovic Rolland-Marcotte, who leads the project, was first known as half of the acclaimed rap duo Kirouac & Kodakludo. With childhood friend, he explores sounds inspired by projects such as The 1975, The Japanese House, AG Cook, No Rome, Mac Miller, Frank Ocean.
ABOUT LIKE I DID FOR TOMMYThe album was born from a breakup, shaped over two years through incomprehension and pain. It is a raw project, punctuated with almost documentary moments, such as voice memos which enrich the listening experience by making the experience almost tangible. With atmospheric pieces reminiscent of the Ghibli universe, the album weaves an eclectic but coherent world, carried by Ludovic’s voice and vulnerability. If the piano initially carried the project, childhood friend slowly turned to the guitar, an instrument that he associates with a feeling of anchoring, necessary for the creation of the album. The creation of this album was the most difficult test of his career, and even more so in recent weeks, the album being now finished. Two and a half years of work, an almost voluntary slowness, as if childhood friend unconsciously refused to leave this creative bubble. This album is a liberation in music, a form of honest and profoundly human therapy.

ABOUT THE FOCUS TRACK “THE RESTAURANT” The piece took shape through his gaze on the neighboring tables in a restaurant, where the imagination ran freely. The scene begins with a simple vision: a couple sitting at a table, who love each other and who seem happy. This image awakens in him the memory of an old relationship, then projects him into his own dreams and fantasies. Little by little, thoughts race, emotions become tangled, and sadness sets in.
