Kat Pereira presented vert de lichen, her very first album where a multitude of sound textures anchored in pop, electro and neo-soul are deployed with deeply poetic and committed texts. Revealed just a few months ago during the 29th edition of the Francouvertes – where she reached the final – the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist presents her first major offering, which she co-produced alongside Félix Petit (Hubert Lenoir, Les Louanges, Ariane Roy). Accompanying many of her artists (Alfa Rococo, Natasha Kanapé, Laura Niquay, Noé Lira) as well as working as a director, composer, arranger and beatmaker, Kat Pereira has made a notable place for herself on the music scene and is now one of the promising voices of the French-speaking neo-soul scene.
ABOUT VERT DE LICHEN The album unfolds an abundant fresco, at once sensitive, maximalist and luminous. Each piece is a universe in itself, inspired by neo-soul, pop and electro, carried by intoxicating rhythms and catchy melodies, always hiding a “secret agenda”: a little militant, a little philosophical, a little poetic.
Kat combines committed poetry and heady refrains to explore intimate and universal themes: colonialism, feminism, the quest for identity, but also the redefinition of “home” and the strength of human bonds. Inspired by a multitude of artists and styles without resembling anyone in particular, vert de lichen breathes a real breath of fresh air into French-speaking songs. It is an album that democratizes an atypical rhythmic and harmonic approach, while always remaining accessible, close to the listener.

ABOUT THE FOCUS TRACK “WHERE IS MY HOME” Behind this extract hides an intimate reflection: how to redefine the feeling of “home” when it can no longer be limited to a fixed abode? Inspired by touring and wandering hotel rooms, Kat explores the idea of anchoring through the body as a first habitat, human connections as new benchmarks, and the importance of learning to take care of oneself in order to live fully. Kat Pereira is a Montreal multi-instrumentalist artist and synesthete. Known as a keyboardist, guitarist, bassist, flautist and backing vocalist in various groups including Alfa Rococo, Eli Rose, Alex Nevsky, Laura Niquay, Noé Lira, Laraw, she removes her chameleon costume and presents herself in complete authenticity under a luminous and maximalist alternative electro-pop inspired by queens Erykah Badu, Hiatus Kaiyote and Saya Gray. Kat Pereira combines committed poetry and catchy melodies to explore themes that are both intimate and universal: colonialism, feminism, quest for identity. With Félix Petit (Les Louanges, Hubert Lenoir, Ariane Roy) at her side, she is preparing the release of vert de lichen, her first album with pale green tones of D flat. She stood out to the general public by reaching the final of the Francouvertes, a prestigious Montreal musical competition.
