Axia films is pleased to highlight that the film THE ELECTRIC VENUS by Pierre Salvadori (En liberté!), will be released on July 31 in Quebec. Presented at the opening of the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival last May, and starring Pio Marmaï (The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan, The Attachment), Anaïs Demoustier (The Count of Monte Cristo, The Loves of Anaïs), Gilles Lellouche (Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, Dog 51) and Vimala Pons (The Attachment, César for best supporting role 2026), this burlesque romantic comedy enjoyed great popular success in France and won the Swann dor for best film as well as the Swann dor for best actor (awarded to Gilles Lellouche) at the Cabourg Film Festival a few weeks ago.
Paris, 1928. Antoine Balestro, a young, fashionable painter, has been unable to work since the death of his wife and Armand, his gallery owner, is in despair. One drunken evening, Antoine tries to contact his wife through a psychic. Without knowing it, he is actually speaking with Suzanne, a modest fairground worker who slipped into the caravan to steal food. Suzanne proves to be gifted at imposture and, quickly assisted by Armand, she goes through a series of false sessions. Little by little, Antoine finds inspiration, but for Suzanne things become complicated as she slowly falls in love with the man she manipulates…
Scripted by Pierre Salvadori, Benoît Graffin and Benjamin Charbit, THE ELECTRIC VENUS has received a very warm welcome from the public and critics since its world premiere in Cannes in May. The eleventh feature film by Pierre Salvadori, a regular at comedies, THE ELECTRIC VENUS is a first foray into period films for the French director. The result is a jubilant film thanks to virtuoso dialogues and particularly careful photo direction which adds to the charm of this story of love and lies set in the 1920s.
