As deportations increase in the neighborhood, Parc-Extension residents will gather at a public meeting to defend their neighbors and oppose exclusionary immigration measures. This event also takes place during the final weeks of the Quebec election campaign, during which several political parties have worked to blame migrants for the housing crisis and the difficulties encountered by the health and education systems.

Residents are mobilizing to denounce deportations and build a neighborhood of solidarity in Parc-ExtensionWhat: Rally against deportations in Parc-ExtensionWhen: Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 11 a.m.Where: 7000 avenue du Parc (near Parc metro station)

With the implementation of Bill C-12 and the tightening of immigration controls, Canada plans to deport approximately 30,000 migrants this year, including 3,000 to Quebec during the first quarter of 2026. Given that Quebec has accounted for half of all expulsions to date, and that migrants from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are among the communities most affected by ongoing expulsions, the Parc-Extension district was particularly targeted by the recent wave of deportations. Many Parc-Extension residents face family separation, lose access to income and services, and live daily with stress, isolation and fear. The neighborhood has also seen an increase in harassment from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), with plainclothes officers intimidating residents and making unsolicited visits to places of worship.

Residents are organizing this assembly as the first step in a broader neighborhood campaign aimed at putting an end to evictions and creating a solidarity zone in Parc-Extension. They will also reaffirm the need for a comprehensive and inclusive regularization program for all irregular migrants.

This event will be an opportunity to hear testimonies from community members threatened with deportation, as well as those from local community groups and health professionals. Interviews may be conducted on site.
