Les Films NADIAZ Inc. is proud to present The Hippocratic Oath, a film written, produced and directed by Nadia Zouaoui, which follows the fight of four doctors from immigrant backgrounds who try to find their place in the Quebec health system. The documentary will be broadcast as part of Doc Humanité on Thursday January 8, 2026 at 9 p.m. on ICI TÉLÉ and on ICI TOU.TV.
Through the crossed destinies of Dr AbdelKarim Laribi, Dr Daniela Pujol, Dr Gilles Carruel and Dr Fernanda Pérez Gay Juárez, who share an unconditional love of medicine, The Hippocratic Oath bears witness to the adventures and obstacles they encounter during their attempts to access the health system of their host country.
Dr. AbdelKarim Laribi became a high school teacher after more than five years of passing exams for the College of Physicians of Quebec and trying to obtain a residency training in a medical school. Dr. Daniela Pujol, an anesthesiologist from Argentina with 15 years of experience, has resigned herself to working with Doctors Without Borders Canada in dangerous areas and to living far from her Quebec husband. Dr Gilles Carruel, a French doctor with 30 years of experience, discouraged by the waiting time for internships and other administrative obstacles, has resigned himself to working in Martinique while keeping a foothold in Quebec, which he loves so much. And Dr. Fernanda Pérez Gay Juárez, a doctor of Mexican origin, PHD in neuroscience from McGill University, managed to obtain a residency in psychiatry and decided to help immigration doctors overcome the obstacles of the system.
This film puts faces on the life and journey of these shadowy practitioners who – one day, in their distant countries – had nevertheless taken the august Hippocratic oath.
