At the start of the school year, while thousands of Quebec families are preparing to buy or replace a computer, a Léger survey carried out for Insertech highlights a marked gap between what Quebecers know about computer risks and the actions they actually take to protect themselves from them. Indeed, Quebecers seem to rely more on their own vigilance than on tools allowing them to add layers of protection. Although half say they know the main precautions to take, multi-factor authentication, regular backups and password managers are only used by about a quarter of respondents.
DIGITAL SECURITY STARTS WITH A WELL-MAINTAINED DEVICEContrary to popular belief, protection against cybersecurity issues does not depend solely on the operating system, but above all on the maintenance and regular updating of the device. A poorly maintained computer, whether new or used, remains vulnerable, while a verified, updated and guaranteed device offers a solid basis of protection. It is with this in mind that Insertech, a social economy company specializing in computer reconditioning, is offering free workshops for the 2026 school year to extend the life of your device in a secure manner, and to avoid fraud at the start of the school year.
A LOCAL AND ACCESSIBLE SOLUTION TO COUNTER ORDIFLATION In cases where a new device is required, Insertech will offer computers that are fully verified, up to date and guaranteed for one year, for a fraction of the price of new, with some models available starting at $199 (without taxes). Each device is inspected before sale, which allows everyone to equip themselves without compromising on reliability or security. “We want people to leave with a device they trust, not only because it is affordable, but because it is truly reliable” underlines Marie-France Bellemare, general director of Insertech.
A POSITIVE SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT The back-to-school campaign contributes to the socio-professional integration mission of Insertech, which has been training young adults in difficulty for IT careers for over 25 years. Since 1998, Insertech has reconditioned more than 250,000 devices and helped more than 2,000 unemployed young adults learn a trade, integrate socially and enter the job market.
This year alone, 62 people were supported in the integration program and, for the last two cohorts, 80% of these young people found a job at the end of the training, thanks to the Insertech placement service.
