SPACE CADET, L’ODYSSÉE DE CÉLESTE, directed by multidisciplinary artist Kid Koala, will be on display across Quebec on February 20, for the school break. Distributed by Les Films Opale and Entract Films and produced by Les Films OUTSIDERS, this animated feature film is a vibrant musical fable about memory, the passing of time and our connection with infinity. Adapted from Kid Koala’s graphic novel, SPACE CADET, L’ODYSSÉE DE CÉLESTE is a story told without dialogue, which is aimed at the whole family. Produced by Ginette Petit, Nathalie Bissonnette and Michel Pradier, the film is written by Mylène Chollet.
ROBOT always looked after CÉLESTE, until she became a brilliant scientist and astronaut. When it goes on an interstellar mission, ROBOT must face loneliness and the aging of its system. In the immensity of space, CÉLESTE faces great dangers. As she struggles to overcome these obstacles, memories of her childhood resurface, illuminating her path through the darkness.
Presented as a world premiere at the 75th Berlinale last year, SPACE CADET, THE ODYSSEY OF CÉLESTE is enjoying a successful festival career. Kid Koala writes the original music for the film and revisits jazz classics such as I Will Wait for You, They Can’t Take That Away from Me, Fly Me to the Moon and Moon River. These iconic songs are performed by renowned singers, including Emilíana Torrini, Martha Wainwright, Meagan Smith, Mariana “Ladybug” Vieira and Karen O, who bring their unique touch to this soundtrack. Lilian Chan is aesthetic designer and head of story, Corinne Merrell is the artistic director, she also edits with Alain Baril and the sound design was entrusted to Olivier Calvert.
