Quebec filmmaker Martin Villeneuve (Mars et Avril, Les 12 travails d’Imelda, Red Ketchup) today unveils the official trailer for his most recent film, Vieille Corneille, which will have its world premiere in Official Competition at the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival, presented from August 4 to 9, 2026 in Providence, United States.
Considered one of the most important independent film festivals in North America and recognized by the Academy of Oscars, the festival will present the film Vieille Corneille before an international audience of film buffs and industry professionals. Selected from more than 7,000 works from 110 countries, the film will have its world premiere there.
Lasting 50 minutes, Vieille Corneille is a musical docu-fiction – a “docu-sical” – dedicated to the Quebec icon Louise Forestier. Through nine chapters inspired by songs from his most recent album, the film accompanies the 83-year-old artist in a reflection on creation, freedom, old age, death and our times. Between Quebec and Tasmania, over the seasons, a deeply human portrait emerges which goes far beyond the figure of the artist to speak of us all.

Entirely financed by private capital, Vieille Corneille was produced with the support of LABE – Let Artists Be and producer Louis-Armand Bombardier. This is an author’s project where Martin Villeneuve is responsible for the production, interviews, photo direction, sound recording, editing and calibration. Carried by the music of Louis Dufort and Louise Forestier, Vieille Corneille is intended to be both an artistic testament and a celebration of creation as an act of resistance, freedom and hope. Finally, let us recall that the album Vieille Corneille won the “Experimental Album of the Year” prize at GAMIQ in November 2025.
