The major food chains as well as the Hallal supermarkets are managing to offer even more unbeatable specials.<\/p><div id=\"linit-2528534201\" class=\"linit-dans-le-contenu linit-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8992136571741975\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8992136571741975\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"1055921646\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>Quebecers of North African origin combine their traditions with the rhythm of the host land. Beyond religious practice, Ramadan has an important social and community dimension.<\/p>\n<p>Artistic and cultural life comes alive in Montreal, where a large North African community lives. Concerts, dinner shows and exhibitions are organized after Iftar, serving as an intergenerational bridge for the transmission of traditions.<\/p>\n<p>It is also the month of compassion and sharing where collective meals are offered everywhere to the needy but also to everyone.<\/p>\n<h2>The Ramadan atmosphere<\/h2>\n<p>We take advantage of this moment of piety and contemplation to break the fast with family or friends by tasting different savory and sweet dishes.<\/p>\n<p>Around a Moroccan table, we serve \u201cla Hrira\u201d (soup), \u201cle Tadjin\u201d, \u201cEl khli3\u201d, (dried meat), \u201cEl Mchermel\u201d, \u201cEl Chebakiya\u201d, \u201cEl Selou\u201d, \u201cEl Briouat\u201d etc. We also like to have tea which must be served \u201cHami, H\u2019lou, Har\u201d (hot, sweet, spicy). The Algerian table offers \u201cla Zlabiya\u201d and \u201cKalb El Louz\u201d (Heart of fines) which are served before main dishes such as \u201cla Chorba frik\u201d (Soup) which is eaten with \u201cla Kesra\u201d or \u201cKhobz Tounes\u201d (bread). There are numerous starters such as \u201cL\u2019ham El Hlou\u201d (sweet meat), \u201cEl bourak\u201d, \u201cEl Mtewem\u201d, \u201cChtitha djadj\u201d, \u201cEl Jari\u201d, \u201cEl Slita\u201d (small salad dish). We spend the evening tasting the sweets that are served for the occasion such as Fine Cigars, \u201cGriwech\u201d, \u201cK\u2019tayef\u201d, \u201cBaklawa\u201d, \u201cEl M\u2019hancha\u201d. Before sunrise at the time of S\u2019hour some people take \u201cMesfouf\u201d (couscous) with \u201cL\u2019ben\u201d or \u201cRayeb\u201d (buttermilk). On the Tunisian table, we also serve \u201cChorba\u201d (soup), \u201cles Brik\u201d, \u201cSalata Mechouiya\u201d (Salad), \u201cKesksou\u201d (couscous) as well as many varieties of sweets such as \u201cEl Ktayef\u201d, \u201cEl Zlabya\u201d or even \u201cMekrout El Kiraouane\u201d. These are some non-exhaustive dishes that make you salivate and that members of the community share at the time of Adhan El Maghreb (call to prayer).
