A key figure in Montreal municipal life, Mary Deros has devoted nearly thirty years of public service to the Parc-Extension district, which she represented on the municipal council from 1998 to 2025. A resident of the district since 1970, she has distinguished herself through a proximity policy based on listening, accessibility and defending families, seniors and newcomers. Coming from immigration and deeply involved in community life well before entering politics, she was able to put her knowledge of multicultural realities at the service of one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Montreal. Its action has made a lasting contribution to improving the quality of life in Parc‑Extension, particularly through the development of major infrastructure such as the Saint‑Roch swimming pool and the Parc‑Extension library.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-8992136571741975"
data-ad-slot="1055921646"
data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

Patro Villeray is getting a facelift to meet the needs of the community Significant modernization work will be carried out at the Patro Villeray community leisure and mutual aid center, located at 7355, avenue Christophe-Colomb, in order to improve the quality, safety and accessibility of the facilities made available to the population. The project includes the complete redevelopment of the reception area with the creation of a bistro area and a multi-purpose room, as well as the major renovation of the gymnasiums, including the replacement of the sports floor, the addition of dividing and acoustic curtains, the installation of new sports equipment including new basketball hoops and the improvement of storage spaces. The gymnasium locker rooms will also be completely redesigned, with universally modernized facilities including a family locker room, new individual showers and a reception relocated at the entrance to the building to improve accessibility and visibility.

The construction contract, awarded to DCR Construction, represents nearly $4M. The project is based on funding shared between several public partners and Patro Villeray. It is largely supported by the Financial Assistance Program for Recreational and Sports Infrastructure, set up by the governments of Quebec and Canada (approximately $2.8M). The Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough also contributes funding from its investment program (approximately $1.1 million), while Patro Villeray is participating in the project to the tune of $450,000, including a donation of $250,000 from the Caisse Desjardins du Centre-Nord de Montréal.

Construction work will begin at the beginning of August 2026 and will take place over a period of 12 months. Le Patro Villeray will remain open throughout the duration of the work and is working to minimize impacts on services.

Pedestrianization of Rue Villeray moves forward with community support Due to the redevelopment work on Rue De Castelnau, the Borough and the Commercial Development Corporation (SDC) of Quartier Villeray have studied the possibility of pedestrianizing Rue Villeray this summer, between Rue Lajeunesse and Avenue De Gaspé. From February 2 to March 2, 2026, a survey made it possible to collect the opinions of the surrounding population regarding this project. More than 2,200 people participated. Among respondents living in the neighborhood, nearly 78% said they were in favor of pedestrianization. This positive reception adds to the support of traders in the sector. Rue Villeray will therefore be temporarily pedestrianized in the summer of 2026.

The borough council granted a financial contribution of $102,045 to the SDC du Quartier Villeray for the realization of pedestrianization. This project is being carried out as part of the Joint Economic Planning of the Government of Quebec and the City of Montreal.

Ville en vert, partner of the third edition of Bye Bye Béton! An amount of $75,000 was granted to the Ville en vert organization for the implementation of the participatory demineralization and greening program, Bye Bye Béton!. Thanks to this financial contribution, Ville en vert will be able to support the greening initiatives carried out by the students and staff of the George-Vanier and Marie-Favery schools, both selected following the Program’s call for projects.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-8992136571741975"
data-ad-slot="1055921646"
data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

During the last meeting of the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough council, the members of the council highlighted the exceptional contribution to municipal life of Mary Deros, councilor of the Parc-Extension district for nearly three decades, by inviting her to sign the guestbook.
