The ACPAV and Maison 4:3 are pleased to announce that, through a common desire, Sophie Deraspe (Antigone, Bergers), screenwriter and director, and Catherine St-Laurent, actress and associate producer, have come together to adapt the Sugar Baby podcast by journalist Marie-Eve Tremblay for the cinema. Filming for LOVE IN THE TIMES OF SATELLITES began on August 24 in Montreal and will continue until October 8 before being completed outside the country until the end of October. The film will star Rosalie P\u00e9pin (Mea Culpa, Romin) and Catherine St-Laurent (District 31, The Twentieth Century) in the lead roles. R\u00e9mi-Pierre Paquin (LesInvincibles), Louise Cardinal (Yamaska, M\u00e9moires Vives) and Francis Ducharme (Before the crash, Tell me why these things are so beautiful), among others, complete the cast.<\/p>\n
Cl\u00e9mentine, a young woman from a wealthy family who seems to lack nothing, somewhat naively registers on a sugar dating site. What initially appears to him as a harmless game quickly draws him into a spiral of sexual exploitation from which it becomes increasingly difficult to escape. While seeking to regain control of her life, she crosses paths with Marie-Eve, a police officer who collects her secrets. Cl\u00e9mentine’s story reveals the violence of man-woman relationships that take place in the world of prostitution and deeply upsets Marie-Eve. Determined to understand the mechanisms that allow this violence to persist, the latter undertakes a quest that will lead her to push her own limits.<\/p>\n
Drawing its origins from the podcast Sugar Baby by journalist Marie-Eve Tremblay, launched on Radio-Canada OHdio in 2021, Sophie Deraspe’s script returns to the disturbing revelations and the story of Cl\u00e9mentine, a young woman victim of the excesses of sugar dating and sexual exploitation.<\/p>
