Scotland hasn’t been a massive team on the world stage. The team didn’t make it past the group rounds in the last world cup competition. Therefore, the goal is to find the right players and increase their chances of going far in the competition. With Scottish players spread across different teams, Gregor Townsend has lots of work.
The coach would have to pick the right players to make the team. Townsend has to change the team’s shape because they didn’t impress in the 2022 Six Nations tournament. In that case, the team would need more to compete with the top contenders. We believe picking a team in the Premiership would do well, especially those usually part of the Premier League predictions today picks.
Therefore, let’s take a look at six premiership players that has the chance to represent Scotland at the Rugby World Cup in France.
Allan Dell – London Irish
The 30-year-old South African-born rugby player is a that mostly plays as Loosehead Prop for London Irish. The scot has had an interesting story, and he was part of the team representing the country in the Rugby World Cup in 2019. He joined the national team in 2016 by Vern Cotter, earning his first country appearance in the Autumn Internationals Series when Scotland faced Australia.
Since his debut, he has made 32 appearances for Scotland and scored five goals. Even though he is not a big scorer, he can bring a lot of experience to the team, and with that, the squad can have a reliable loosehead prop whenever they want to switch up the tactics while facing some of their top opponents.
Chris Harris – Gloucester Rugby
Although Christopher James Harris would be 32 when the team would play at the Rugby World Cup, he would be a pivotal part of the team. He currently plays center for the Gloucester Rugby team, and since his debut, he has scored 75 points. Therefore, he is a solid player that can help Scotland in the world cup.
As an English-born player, Harris started his international career playing for England Counties in 2013. However, in 2017, he was called to the Scotland national team, where he played 35 games and scored 25 points. Therefore, he is one player we think would most likely make the squad list going to France.
Adam Hastings – Gloucester Rugby
Adam Hastings started his professional rugby career in 2014 after joining Bath academy. After that, he moved to play for Glasgow Warriors in 2017 before joining Gloucester at the start of the 2021-22 season, and as a result, he was part of the top premier league picks. We continue to see how incredible he has been for the team since he started playing there.
After showing that he is a solid fly half, he got his call up to the Scotland national team, and in 2018, he made his first appearance. He has since represented Scotland at the Rugby World Cup, and he continues to be a top contender to be part of the team to travel to France in 2023.
Rory Sutherland – Worcester Warriors
Another Loosehead prop that we think would make it into the team is Rory Sutherland. He is one of the best in the squad. The 30-year-old player currently plays for Worcester Warriors in the Premiership, a team that has been getting recognition when it comes to Premier League predictions every season.
He continues to deliver for the team, and since his debut, Sutherland has been a solid option for the coach. We would love to see the powerhouse make it to France as Scotland is trying to impress at the world cup and go far in the competition. Undoubtedly, he is one of the top premiership players we expect in France in 2023.
Sam Skinner – Edinburgh Rugby
Samuel George Skinner is an English-born Rugby player that started his career at Taunton Titans in 2013. He also played in the England U20 team in 2015 before getting a call up to Scotland in 2018, and since then, he has made over 20 appearances. The 27-year-old is an exciting Back Row that has much to offer.
With Exeter Chiefs, he has played most of his solid games for the team and continued to offer an exciting look into the Lock position. He would be a great addition to the Scottish National Team. We hope that Townsend will consider adding him to the team when they travel to France in 2023.
Ben White – London Irish
Benjamin James White is a young player that plays scrum half for London Irish, one of the top teams in the Rugby Premiership. He started his career with Leicester Tigers and made 71 appearances for the team before moving on loan to Doncaster Knights. Finally, he made a move in 2021 to London Irish.
For the national team, he first played for the England U20 team in 2018 before he was called to join the Scottish team in 2022. Since then, he has made more than five appearances. Even though he is new to the team, we believe he would be a good addition.
