M’Hamed YacineM’Hamed Yacine — For the first time in Montreal
Heir to an age-old dialogue between Arab, Berber, Jewish and Iberian cultures, M’Hamed Yacine offers music imbued with sacred breath, where memory, poetry and melody compete for elevation.
Having fallen into the pot of music since his childhood in Algiers, Yacine was initiated into the mysteries of instruments before sculpting his talent at the Kouba Music Conservatory. Diverted for a short time by the exact sciences, his true vocation led him to higher studies in musicology. He learns to master this alchemy which combines rigor of the mind and passion of the heart.
His approach celebrates the infinite richness of the nuances of the Andalusian, Hawzi, Chaâbi repertoires and the incantatory force of his songs. Under his fingers and through his voice, the public is invited on a mystical journey where beauty springs from the harmony of opposites. Through the captivating rhythms of hawzi and the nobility of Andalusian music, each chord awakens a collective memory, and each verse resonates the echo of past generations. It is a sound architecture of infinite subtlety, a sanctuary where love, spiritual quest and contemplation mingle, like a confidence whispered by the past to flourish in the present.
For the very first time, this distant echo crosses the ocean to vibrate in Montreal. Lovers of centuries-old traditions, enthusiasts of Algerian rhythms or minds curious about the absolute, this unique evening at M’Hamed Yacine is an invitation to suspend time, and let yourself be carried away by the most impetuous Andalusian waves.
Born in Algiers into a family of music lovers, M’Hamed Yacine was introduced to different musical instruments at a very young age before joining the Kouba Music Conservatory, where he was supervised by renowned teachers until 1987.
After scientific university training, the artist joined the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Algiers, where he studied musicology and obtained his diploma in 1996.
Passionate about Algerian music and deeply attached to his heritage, M’Hamed Yacine has numerous recitals to his credit as well as several participations in Andalusian music festivals.
He has also recorded three albums, Hawzi, L’été en fête and Ya Hmam, through which he contributes to bringing to life, transmitting and spreading the richness of Algerian musical heritage.
