It is already in two weeks that the Parc de l’Esplanade will give way to art, with the 44th edition of Plein Art Québec, presented by the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec (CMAQ)! From August 11 to 23, a free program rich in workshops, demonstrations, conferences and concerts will bring together more than 80 creators who will showcase their know-how to the public.
The opening evening on August 11 begins at 5:30 p.m., including the presentation of the Maestria Prize and the Hommage Prize, in addition to a traditional Indigenous ceremony hosted by Diane Picard. Musical entertainment by DJ Sébastien Sémont will take place throughout the evening.
Throughout the duration of the Show, a variety of activities accessible to all audiences highlighting crafts, indigenous arts, music and storytelling will be offered: • Gesture workshops: jewelry, textiles, stained glass, stone cutting, woodworking, ceramics as well as demonstrations of indigenous know-how in porcupine quill jewelry and pottery. • Youth shows: musical tale The Imaginary Friends • Indigenous dance: Pow dance demonstrations Wow• Conference: a presentation on the evolution of artistic professions in Quebec• Concerts: a musical program of all kinds

World-renowned jeweler Chantal Gilbert will be the artisan in the spotlight of this edition. His work has been recognized with several prestigious distinctions, including the Governor General of Canada Award (Saidye-Bronfman Prize, 2008). His works have been presented internationally in numerous individual and group exhibitions as well as during biennials. La Poudrière will host a tribute exhibition in his honor throughout the Salon.
This year, Plein Art Hors les Murs, presented by Desjardins, offers an interactive map that brings together craftspeople, heritage sites, workshop schools and craft boutiques across Quebec City. A living gateway to discover, explore and meet local know-how.
