The countdown has officially begun before the International Body Music Festival immerses Quebec City in rhythm and dance! From August 17 to 23, a very rich and inclusive program will please everyone, offering workshops, artistic encounters and numerous family activities in different locations.
Bringing together around sixty artists from Quebec and around the world, this edition offers a diverse program with more than 90 activities, free and paid, which highlight the multiple forms of body music: body percussion, percussive dance, voice, traditional rhythms from here and elsewhere, improvisation, movement and collaborative creation.
Inclusive programming for all tastes The festival places an important place on accessibility and citizen participation. All family activities are offered free of charge in different locations around the city. The Gabrielle-Roy Library will host 4 family workshops and a participatory show bringing together humor, clowning and rhythmic games. Two inclusive and accessible workshops will be offered for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. In addition, certain activities will be performed by an LSQ interpreter. The Domaine de Maizerets will present the ambulatory performance Juncture by Migration Dance Film Projet, a Montreal company. A soundpainting workshop by Fred Lebrasseur will follow, before giving way to a round table on the theme of Quebec step dancing.
A week full of discoveries Each day begins at the Maison pour la danse de Québec with vocal and body warm-up sessions led by different artists. The public will then be able to participate in a wide selection of intensive workshops and master classes covering in particular: • the roots and rhythms of body percussion • Quebec step dancing • indigenous traditions • Brazilian dances and percussion • beatbox • voice and singing • traditional gumboots
Guest artists and speakers include Keith Terry, Rhiannon and Margie Gillis, Barbatuques, Pak Dewa Putu Berata, Yaëlle Azoulay, Nicole O’Bomsawin and several other recognized creators on the international scene.
Festive and unifying eveningsEach evening will be unforgettable with exciting offerings: • August 17: grand opening evening presenting international artists • August 18: traditional Quebec dance vigil and Quebec turlutte workshop • August 19: open microphone evening • August 20: musical improvisation match • August 21: screening of films on body music • August 22: Great show Music that can be seen, dance that can be seen gets along • August 23: final gathering at Parc Victoria and closing evening at the Maison pour la danse
The public is invited to take part in large numbers in the activities of this exciting week! Presented by the percussive dance company Les Malhaussees, for the first time in Quebec, this international festival will certainly charm Quebecers and audiences from all four corners of the globe!
