From June 26, the Cinéma du Musée presents COUTURE, the new feature film by director Alice Winocour.

After winning over critics with Revoir Paris (2022), Alice Winocour’s fifth feature film tackles the world of fashion during Paris Fashion Week.

Carried by an incredible performance from Angelina Jolie, who gives her lines in impeccable French, COUTURE follows the journey of a genre filmmaker who goes to Paris to make a film around a fashion show. While she is immersed in a world that is not her own, she learns that she has breast cancer. During her stay, her destiny intersects with that of two other women with completely different horizons from hers: Angèle (Ella Rumpf), makeup artist, and Ada (Anyier Anei), beginner model.

The role played by Jolie is particularly personal, since she plays a woman suffering from the disease which has claimed several women in her family. Jolie also made a notable media outing in 2013 by revealing that she had chosen to undergo a preventive double mastectomy after discovering that she carried a mutation in the BRCA1 gene, considerably increasing her risk of developing the disease.

With an important reflection on the place of women within the fashion industry, and the choices that influence the course of each life, COUTURE is an intimate and vulnerable film around the interiority of the women it presents to us. Winocour brilliantly manages to bring out depth and truth in a world generally perceived as false and superficial.SynopsisIn Paris, in the tumult of Fashion Week, Maxine, an American director, learns news that will turn her life upside down. She then crosses paths with Ada, a young South Sudanese model who left her country, and Angèle, a French makeup artist aspiring to another life. Between these three women with such different horizons, an unsuspected solidarity is woven. Beneath the glamorous veneer reveals a form of silent revolt: that of women who stitch together, each in their own way, the threads of their own history.

The film is presented in the original bilingual English and French version with French subtitles.
