As part of the LatinArte Festival, the borough’s cultural houses invite you to two committed exhibitions which explore the notion of territory in different artistic and cultural forms: Border spaces at the Parc-Extension house of culture and The body as territory at the Claude-Léveillée house of culture, curated by Claudia Arana. Together, these exhibitions offer a reflection on the territory as a place of identity construction, resistance and encounter. Through the approaches of Latin American and Latin American artists, they explore realities shaped by displacement, collective memories and embodied experiences.
“These exhibitions demonstrate the capacity of art to spark dialogue and nourish our understanding of the realities experienced by different communities. They highlight the richness of Latin American voices and reinforce the role of our cultural centers as places of meeting, exchange and openness to the world,” underlined Jean François Lalonde, mayor of the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension district.
* Border spaces | Maison de la culture de Parc-Extension| From September 2 to October 25, 2026| Gabi Lacoste, María Claudia Quijano and Sabina Gámez The exhibition explores border routes as territories of passage, tension and transformation, reflecting on the plural and hybrid identities shaped by movements between territories, urban spaces and inhabited ecosystems. Through experiences of the in-between, the artists approach borders as geopolitical, social, intimate and emotional constructions, where the self and the collective are continually reconfigured, opening the way to new forms of relationship, belonging and transformation. * The body as territory | Maison de la culture Claude-Léveillée| From September 16 to November 1, 2026 | Claudia Bernal, Rodrigo D’Alcântara and Sarabeth Triviño The exhibition addresses the body as a living territory where identity, memory, migration, ancestral knowledge and resistance are inscribed. Through queer, diasporic, and ancestral perspectives, artists affirm the body as a political and relational space that challenges patriarchal systems, carries hybrid embodied histories, and relates to living ecosystems through the sharing of situated and inherited knowledge.
