The common thread of the 40th edition of the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique unfolded this Sunday, July 12, 2026 at the Théâtre Le National with rare intensity. On the stage, it was the singer-songwriter Nedjim Bouizzoul – alias Labess – who came to seal a true civic and musical communion with the Quebec metropolis.
In quartet format, the group pushed the groove up with formidable efficiency, supported by percussion, frenetic guitars and a masterful trumpet. Nedjim Bouizzoul, through his lucid and hopeful texts, has once again demonstrated his deep civic awareness.
The concert quickly took a demanding turn, marked by a vibrant tribute to Palestine, sealing the art of Resistance of Labess with Palestina. The audience, in a trance, vibrated to the sound of fusion and Andalusian flamenco, notably during a masterful interpretation of Rosa Que Linda Eres.
The evening was also marked by notable rereadings, including a powerful cover of the Yankees by Richard Desjardins. In short, a memorable communion where music became the vehicle of vibrant solidarity.
Asked by the public, Nedjim repeated the success of his first album Babour el leuh before concluding his show with the song Ya Denya by the late Kamel Messaoudi.
