The day after her masterful concert at MTELUS, the famous Malian artist Oumou Sangaré received the Nuits d’Afrique Prize for La Francophonie during an official and moving ceremony at Montreal City Hall.
This distinction awarded by the Nuits d’Afrique International Festival crowns the exceptional career of a major figure in world music in the presence of the Mayor of the city of Montreal Madame Soraya Martinez Ferrada, the founder of Nuits d’Afrique Mr. Lamine Touré and the general director of the festival Madame Suzanne Rousseau.
This Montreal tribute celebrates a remarkable career, defined as much by musical genius as by an unwavering commitment to peace, women’s rights and the influence of the Francophonie.
Recognized on the international scene for more than two decades, the Malian artist has accumulated prestigious honors between 2001 and 2024, including a Grammy Award, the Rolf Schock Prize and the title of Officer of Arts and Letters in France.
