MAISON 4:3 and Metafilms are pleased to announce that the film MARIE MADELEINE, written and directed by Géssica Généus (Freda), will be presented in the international feature film competition Visages de la Francophonie and in the Quebec premiere of the 32nd edition of the CINEMANIA Francophone Film Festival, before hitting theaters on December 4.

In Jacmel, Haiti, the sea, churches and spirits shape life. Marie Madeleine is a free woman. She lives from prostitution and goes through the nights without submitting to the rules of those who save souls. His path crosses that of Joseph, a young evangelist. A relationship is formed between these two beings who are completely opposite. While Joseph wavers in his faith, Mary Magdalene leads him towards a world in which desire and the quest for freedom open up a space where everything can be reinvented.

Presented as a world premiere at the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival last May and then as a North American premiere a few weeks ago at the Toronto Festival, MARIE MADELEINE, the second feature film by GéssicaGénéus, is a work where reality flirts with surrealism, and where the filmmaker seeks to bring together worlds that collide for an instant to bring out moments of light. The film stars the filmmaker herself, as well as Béonard Monteau (Port-au-Prince, Sunday January 4), and for the first time on screen, Edouard Baptiste and Mélissa Mildort.

MARIE MADELEINE is a co-production of Sylvain CORBEIL (Metafilms, Canada), Jean-Marie GIGON (SaNoSiProductions, France), Géssica GÉNÉUS (Ayizan Productions, Haiti), Anton IFFLAND STETTNER (Stenola Productions, Belgium), Lilian ECHE and Christel HENON (Bidibul, Luxembourg). International sales are handled by Pyramide Films.

MARIE MADELEINE is distributed in Canada by Maison 4:3 and will be released on December 4.
