Violence du corps de l’autre, en ouverture de la 55e édition du Festival du nouveau cinéma

Considered one of the important authors of the revival of Quebec cinema over the last twenty years, Denis Côté, was present at the 55th Festival du nouveau cinéma, during the screening of his very latest feature film “Violence du corps de l’autre”.

The filmmaker delivers a punchy film that is aimed at an informed audience, because of the themes that are addressed. At a time when speeches are polite and formatted, Denis Côté has chosen to tackle the issue of euthanasia head-on.

Commonly called, for reasons of social acceptability, “medical assistance in dying”, the subject remains taboo and sensitive in many respects. This is why this film invites us to observe the world from a perspective devoid of any moral judgment and at the same time reminds us of the fragility of our human condition.

A non-judgmental look at human distress

Quebec actress Larissa Corriveau plays the main role in this feature film. She plays the character of Mira, a merchant of death who travels across Quebec meeting people in deep inner distress in the face of death.

Mira travels to her clients and provides them with a lethal dose of liquid before resuming her journey to another destination. However, Ludo (Philippe Rebbot), her employer, follows her trail to ensure that contracts are completed on time.

Denis Côté: an essential filmmaker

“The Violence of the Body of the Other” is the 17th feature film by Denis Côté which will be showing throughout Quebec from October 23. With a career punctuated by dozens of awards and distinctions, Denis Côté renews a fifth collaboration with actress Larissa Corriveau who has already played in “Repertoire of Disappeared Towns” in 2019, “Hygiène sociale” in 2021, “Un été comme ça” in 2022 and “Mademoiselle Kenopsia” in 2023.
