Newly award-winning film BERNARD AND HUEY is the only US feature having its North American Premiere this week at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema in the Panorama International section. BERNARD AND HUEY was written by Oscar/Pulitzer-winner Jules Feiffer (Mike Nichols’ CARNAL KNOWLEDGE, Robert Altman’s POPEYE). Feiffer wrote the screenplay 30 years ago, and based it on characters that go back to 1957 in his eponymous Village Voice cartoon strip, as well as cartoons for Playboy Magazine from 1982-86. Thought to be a lost script, Mirvish and Feiffer spent four years tracking down the screenplay before shooting it last fall in Los Angeles and New York, on Panavision Alexa and Super16mm film cameras.
The film stars Oscar-winner Jim Rash (co-writer on Alexander Payne’s THE DESCENDANTS) and David Koechner (ANCHORMAN, THE OFFICE) in the title leads, as well as such terrific actors as Sasha Alexander (SHAMELESS), Richard Kind (INSIDE OUT), Nancy Travis (SO I MARRIED AN AXE MURDERER), Bellamy Young (SCANDAL) and Mae Whitman (PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER). Director/producer Mirvish is also the co-founder of the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, and the author of the Focal Press/Routledge book THE CHEERFUL SUBVERSIVE’S GUIDE TO INDEPENDENT FILMMAKING. BERNARD AND HUEY is Mirvish’s fifth feature film. His last one, BETWEEN US, starring Julia Stiles, Taye Diggs and David Harbour, played at 23 international film festivals and sold to 144 countries.
BERNARD AND HUEY just won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature this past weekend at the Guam International Film Festival, and world premiered at the Oldenburg Film Festival in Germany (nominee for the German Independence Award) two weeks ago. The film is scheduled for 14 other film festivals this fall, including several in the US that were just announced: Denver, Napa Valley, Cucalorus (Wilmington), Virginia (Charlottesville) and the St. Louis International Film Festival which is presenting Mirvish with the Charles Guggenheim Cinema St. Louis Award.
Mirvish will be available for interviews in Montreal from Thursday night through Saturday night Please feel free to email publicist Eli Perle at eli.perle@provocationent.com or call/text Mirvish directly at +1 323 304 3593.
