QUEBEC FAMILIES FORCED TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THEIR BUDGET AND THE HEALTH OF THEIR ANIMALThe hoPi Foundation launches a call for solidarity on the occasion of its benefit evening
Requests for financial assistance for veterinary care are on the rise, revealing a worrying reality: a growing number of pet owners no longer have the means to provide essential care for their companion. Every week, the hoPi Foundation receives requests from families who deeply love their animal, but who are going through a period of great financial vulnerability. For many, an illness or veterinary emergency represents an impossible choice between their financial stability and the life of their companion. For more than 25 years, the hoPi Foundation has been working to prevent the abandonment and economic euthanasia of companion animals in Quebec. In collaboration with veterinary teams, it offers financial assistance allowing dogs and cats to receive the treatments they need when financial resources are no longer sufficient.
“Behind every request for help is a family who wants to give their animal a chance. Our role is to prevent heartbreaking decisions from being made solely for financial reasons. We believe that no family should have to choose between their ability to pay and the well-being of their companion,” underlines Béatrice Perier, general director of the hoPi Foundation.
Most recently, the Foundation contributed to the care of McFly, a young cat treated for a urinary blockage, Cookie, who survived a major obstetric emergency, and Piru, a dog who required surgery to regain a good quality of life. These stories concretely illustrate the impact of the generosity of donors, partners and veterinary professionals. In order to pursue its mission, the hoPi Foundation will hold its annual benefit evening on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Levant Hall, in Lachine. The event will bring together players from the entire veterinary and animal health sector around the same cause.
Comedian Maxim Martin, accompanied by his dog Aura, will act as ambassador for the evening, while journalist and host Anne-Andrée Daneau will be the mistress of ceremonies.
The evening benefits from the support of Groupe DMV as presenting partner, which notably brings together the CENTREDMVET emergency and specialty centers as well as the Passionimo veterinary clinics. The evening also benefits from the support of Mondou (Diamant), Chico (Gold), IDEXX (Silver), as well as the Bronze partners CDMV, Dechra, Dispomed, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Micrologic, myVETstore, ProConcepts, Royal Canin, Vetoquinol and Videotron.
“Every ticket purchased, every sponsorship and every donation allows us to help more animals and keep families together. The solidarity of our community makes a very real difference,” adds Ms. Perier.
