TVA Films is pleased to announce that JUSTE UNE ILLUSION, directed by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache (Intouchables, Les Sens de la Fête), will be released on September 18 in Quebec. This nostalgic and family comedy (re)immerses the audience in the heart of the 1980s in France, while sensitively exploring the transition from childhood to adolescence, against the backdrop of a society in full transformation. The film brings together on screen Louis Garrel (The Second Act, The Three Musketeers), Camille Cottin (The Children Are Well, Ten Percent), Pierre Lottin (En Fanfare), Alexis Rosenstiehl (The Wings Glued), as well as Simon Boublil in his first role in the cinema.
It is 1985, Vincent, almost 13 years old, lives in the Paris suburbs in a middle-class family, between a distant older brother and parents in permanent conflict. While he is “already no longer” a child and he is “not yet” an adult, we are going to share his questions and doubts about identity, friendship, family, religion, desire and the first impulses of love.
Faithful to their favorite themes observing human failings through the prism of a society in perpetual change, the best-known director duo in French cinema signs with JUSTE UNE ILLUSION their ninth fiction feature film, after notably Nos Jours Heureux (2006), Intouchables (2011), Le Sens de la Fête (2017) and Hors Normes (2021). Immersed in the heart of the 1980s, oscillating between the point of view of each member of a united family: a 13-year-old boy at the birth of his first love, his older brother eager for autonomy, his father facing the emancipation of his wife at work and his mother facing her growing children, the film offers us a funny portrait, both intimate and collective, of a period full of euphoria.
