On the occasion of the 8th edition of the Diaspora Book Fair which took place at Espace IGLI in Montreal, singer Nassim Gadouche from the group Nesraf offered a memorable recital for lovers of chaabi and Algerian music in general.
Accompanied by Amir on synthesizer and Adel on percussion, Nassim Gadouche covered numerous heritage hits including: Noujoum Ellile, Neḍleb Rebbi Ad Aɣ Yeεfu, El Ain Ezzerka, chehilet laayani, Ya el âdra ouin malik, Rayha win B Zinek Ya lmachia before concluding with the classics Ya Rayah, Abkaou ala kheir.
Nesraf is a music group based in Montreal. Its repertoire has its roots in Algerian chaabi music like the name of the group (Nesraf) which means “Departure” in Arabic and which is also a rhythmic and melodic mode in chaabi and Andalusian music. It is also a metaphor that pays homage to the migrants who shared and perpetuated this heritage throughout the world.
Founded in 2015, the Nesraf group revisits the great classics of Algerian chaabi through contemporary and mixed sounds. For several years, the group has distinguished itself on numerous stages and major festivals:
2023: Participation in the Mondokarnaval festival and notable performance at the Cabaret Acoustique des Nuits d’Afrique. 2024: Presence on the bill of the Orientalys Festival, the Montreal Arab World Festival and participation in the Syli d’Or musical showcase. 2025: Programming at the Souk du Sud Festival, the Algerian Écomusée Festival, renowned Vues d’Afrique festival, as well as a return to the Nuits d’Afrique acoustic stage.

The Nesraf group continues to thrill the Quebec public with two major events this summer and fall: August 7, 2026: Free outdoor show as part of the Laval Mosaic Festival, presented at the Momo cultural station in Laval. End of October 2026 (precise date to come): Presentation of the major thematic concert, “Nesraf, the voices of the chaâbi”.
