The Saint-Léonard library hosts RÉCUPERACTION, an eco-responsible cultural mediation project led by the artist Omar Gammaoui. This initiative invites the public to explore creativity through the transformation of everyday materials into works of art.
Open to participants from the age of 8, the workshops offer an immersion in various visual arts practices — painting, sculpture and crafts — in an approach that is fun, stimulating and accessible. Through these meetings, participants are invited to become creators while reflecting on contemporary issues such as the environment, social issues and cultural diversity.
Combining artistic creation and educational exchange, RÉCUPERACTION is part of an approach to raising awareness of eco-responsibility and the valorization of resources, while promoting sharing and individual expression.

About Omar Gamaoui:
Omar Gammaoui was born in Casablanca, Morocco, where he grew up and studied visual arts from high school. He then continued his training at the École supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Casablanca, where he obtained his diploma in visual arts in 2001. Anxious to share his experience while continuing to learn, he became involved as a volunteer in the creation of several murals throughout the streets of his hometown. Since his move to Canada, his primary concern has always been the environment, which pushed him to create an artistic movement Récupéraction which brings together artists who share the same philosophy. He has participated in several events associated with this cause in Canada and internationally. In 2008, he participated in the Salon des Métiers d’Arts du Québec as an exhibitor where he had the opportunity to come into contact with the general public. He was approached by an art gallery in Toronto where he exhibited for several years. In 2019, he was approached by Cirque du Soleil where he worked as a props designer. He has collaborated and still collaborates with several Montreal organizations, such as: Maison de la culture Claude Léveillée, La Maison d’Haïti, La Tohue, Le Salon de l’Environnement, Mon Resto Saint-Michel, Le center culturelle marocain – Dar Al Maghrib, Centraide and À Reach de Mains etc.
