Cinéma du Parc Distribution presents RUE MÁLAGA by director Maryam Touzani.
After Le Bleu du caftan (Official Selection Cannes Film Festival 2022 – Un Certain Regard) and Adam (Official Selection Cannes Film Festival 2019 – Un Certain Regard), Maryam Touzani’s third feature film won the Audience Award at the Venice Film Festival and was Morocco’s official selection at the last Oscar ceremony.
Starring actress Carmen Maura, best known for her roles in director Pedro Almodóvar’s films, the film is a tragicomedy about rooting and growing old. With delicacy and warmth, Touzani brings to the forefront characters who are often invisible and shows us in a subversive way that love and sexuality have no age.
SynopsisMaria Angeles, a 79-year-old Spanish woman, lives alone in Tangier, in the north of Morocco, where she enjoys her city and her daily life. Her life changes when her daughter Clara arrives from Madrid to sell the apartment in which she has always lived. Determined to stay in this city that saw her grow up, she does everything possible to keep her house and recover the objects of her life. Against all odds, she rediscovers love and desire along the way.
The film is shown in the following cinemas: • Cinéma du Parc (Montreal – with English subtitles) • Cinéma Beaubien (Montreal – with French subtitles) • Cinéma Public (Montreal – with French subtitles) • La Cinémathèque Québécoise (Montreal – with French subtitles)
