For its fourth edition, Les Lumières de Saint-Michel will offer free and festive programming for the whole family from August 7 to 9. Between shows, workshops, activities, the Foulée Illuminée and the Grand Défilé des Lumières, the event will offer three days of meetings, creativity and wonder in the heart of Saint-Michel.
Friday, August 7: Move, run, dance! From 5:45 p.m., TOHU launches the festivities with a free family program including lantern workshops, treasure hunts, free games and a friendly atmosphere at BAHUT, the open-air restaurant-bistro. The movement will be in the spotlight with the Montreal Krump Alliance, which will offer an introduction to krump, battles bringing together young up-and-coming artists and professional artists, as well as performances highlighting this form of urban expression. From 8:30 p.m., the Foulée Illuminée, organized in collaboration with parkrun, will invite participants to travel through Frédéric-Back Park on 2 km or 6 km circuits in a unique nighttime atmosphere. Accessible to all and without timekeeping, the activity celebrates the pleasure of moving while encouraging participants to put on their best fluorescent outfits inspired by the 80s. The evening will continue with music by DJ Félix Imbault, who will have the public dancing until 11 p.m. in a festive and bright atmosphere.
Saturday, August 8: The Grand Défilé des Lumières will enchant Saint-Michel From 5:45 p.m., TOHU and BAHUT will welcome the public for an evening celebrating the creativity of the neighborhood. Shows, entertainment and participatory activities for the whole family will punctuate the programming ahead of the Grand Défilé des Lumières. Music will be in the spotlight with Wesli, winner of a JUNO award and an essential figure in world music, followed by the duo Shnock & Shanti with nomadic accents. At dusk, the public will be invited to attend The Legend of the Lights of Saint-Michel, a tale presented by Contes Vivants and inspired by the collective imagination of the neighborhood’s children, before the departure of the Grand Parade of Lights. This large 2.2 km light walk departing from TOHU will make the streets of Saint-Michel vibrate to the rhythm of lanterns, music and street arts. The Stonda and Maracatu Raio de Ouro percussion ensembles, the artists of LaboKracBoom as well as the characters of the Zani Clown and Comedy School will take part in this great celebration. The party will continue until 11 p.m. with DJ NATH, accompanied by dancers from the Queen & Queer collective.
Sunday, August 9: A grand finale for the whole family From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., TOHU invites families to enjoy a final day of free festivities. Placed under the sign of the circus, clown humor and creativity, this day will offer a variety of activities for young and old. The public will notably be able to discover Bouchées de cirque, a participatory show presented by Productions Cirkaz, where spectators become the artisans of their own circus discoveries. The day will continue with circus workshops, an introduction to poï with Monsieur Poï, family activities and free games. The Zani Clown and Comedy School will close the artistic program of this fourth edition with a colorful show mixing humor, fantasy and interactions with the public.
