Les Films du 3 Mars and Filmoption International announce the digital release of Bedrock (Roche-mère), first feature-length documentary written and directed by Kinga Michalska (Vampires, It’s Nothing to Laugh at).
Having its world premiere at the Berlinale and its North American premiere at the DOXA Documentary Film Festival, Bedrock has been selected for numerous festivals around the world. In addition to being screened in several Canadian cities, the film traveled to Germany, Croatia, Finland, Belgium, the United States, Serbia and Poland, where it won the Best Polish Film Award at the Millenium Docs Against Gravity. Like its festival run, its theatrical release was crowned with success, and multiple screenings were sold out.
The film is now available across Canada via the F3M+ platform. It is also available for rental on Tënk, thanks to a partnership aimed at celebrating the notable works recently programmed at the Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC).
Synopsis: Bedrock paints a psychological portrait of Poland from the point of view of Polish men and women who live today on various remnants of the Holocaust. This observational documentary offers a journey through a territory where the bones of the victims and the architecture of extermination are intimately linked to the existence of the protagonists. Through vignettes representing haunted places where various people live daily, Bedrock reveals, layer after layer, the complexities of identity linked to trauma, memory and responsibility. Examining the echoes of a brutal past, the film invites us to face the horrors of the present.
