La Distributrice de films and Ambuscade Films are proud to present Les ombresluminées, the first feature-length documentary written and directed by Nicolas Dufour-Laperrière, who also co-produced it alongside Rosalie Chicoine Perreault. The film will have its world premiere at the Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC), in national competition, on October 10 and 12, in the presence of the filmmaker and the film crew.
In the heart of the Haute-Gatineau forest, in the middle of the moose hunting season, humans and animals search for each other, cross paths, and observe each other. The luminous shadows capture the gestures, the silences, the desires and the tensions that inhabit these Quebec and Algonquin hunters as they become the protagonists of a ritual with deep ramifications, and where nature still reigns supreme.
Through a sensory and immersive staging, we evoke this tenuous border between the visible and the invisible, between light and shadow, between memory, transmission and forgetting. The film is thus a meditation on the fragile cohabitation between humans and their environment, but also between Indigenous people and non-Indigenous people in a world in profound change.

About the filmmaker Born in Saguenay, living in Montreal, Nicolas Dufour-Laperrière has had a career as an artist and film producer for over 15 years. For over a decade, he has been producing animated films and arthouse documentaries at the studio he co-founded, Ambuscade Films. Among these, Death Does Not Exist (Cannes Directors’ Fortnight 2025), Archipel and Transatlantic by Félix Dufour-Laperrière, and The Hibiscus Season by Éléonore Goldberg (Iris Prize for best animated short film in 2021). Luminous Shadows is his first feature-length documentary.
