After publishing Jolly Jumper no longer responds in 2017, Guillaume Bouzard gets back in the saddle by once again embarking on the world of Lucky Luke.
In this new comic strip, the French author and designer has chosen to accompany the film crew of the series Lucky Luke, where actor Alban Lenoir takes on the role of the most famous cowboy in Franco-Belgian comics.
Where we expect to follow behind the scenes of the series, the cartoon artist puts himself on stage in an album, where “he does not tell about the filming, but HIS filming”, as underlines Julien Vallespi, the producer of the Lucky Luke series. Bouzard, who previously engaged in his comic The autobiography of me too, repeats the exercise with The Man Who Saw the Man Who Films the Man Who Shoots Faster Than His Shadow[1], with a work imbued with tenderness, anecdotes and self-deprecation.
Almost a diary of a shoot
This mention in parentheses which accompanies the title of this comic strip, sums up quite well the journeys of the author who is properly equipped to attend the filming of the Lucky Luke series. Equipped with a “Cowboy Certificate” and all the cowboy paraphernalia, he joined the filming team in the mythical desert of Tabernas in Spain. The author reminds us that several cinema masterpieces have been filmed in the region including Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Conan the Barbarian, Cleopatra, Lawrence of Arabia, etc.
Now that the cartoonist is in place, he can go wherever he wants and do what he wants, but the main thing is that he must be discreet so as not to disturb the series’ film crew. Even though he is in the field, the author has to answer to his publishing house, which is waiting for his first sketches while the bills pile up.
The story takes shape to the rhythm of the author’s blunders and meetings with the series team and a new four-legged friend.
