Bonne nuit, darling, Florence Crête-Lafrenière’s nocturnal project, presented “Sortie de emergency” last March, the final extract before the release of her first EP xx. Carried by two voices who advance together just before the fall, “Emergency Exit” captures this moment of the tipping point – that of the beginning of the end.
We find the same soaring pop-alternative atmosphere as in her first offering “Les aviones”, but this time enhanced by melodic and hypnotic synthesizers. For this project, the singer-songwriter surrounds herself with director Francis Mineau (Malajube, Lucill, Musique pour planches), multi-instrumentalist Thomas Augustin (Malajube, Jesuslesfilles), as well as Pascal Shefteshy for mixing and mastering. From this synergy is born a coherent and assumed project: a space of freedom where comparison and conventions no longer have their place, where the artist moves forward fully with who she is, embracing her uniqueness, her femininity and her legitimacy.
Good night, darling, it’s Florence Crête-Lafrenière’s nocturnal project, which has set up a creative space outside of working hours. Having worked behind the scenes for several years (Bonsound, La Tribu, Théâtre Granada), she is now moving to the forefront, driven by a compelling need to create to cultivate her joy. For a long time, Florence conformed for fear of disturbing, of displeasing, of not being “enough”. Today, she claims a posture of self-affirmation, nourished by a new clarity.
Born in the margins of everyday life, Bonne nuit, darling is a space of freedom where comparison and conventions no longer have their place, where Florence moves forward fully with who she is, embracing her uniqueness, her femininity and her legitimacy. Guided by instinct and a refusal to worry, his approach is head-on, sincere and uncompromising. The night is his territory.
ABOUT THE EXTRACT “EMERGENCY EXIT” A song that evokes what we try to keep when we know very well that we should let everything go. She talks about addiction, toxicity, breakup and that suspended moment when we recognize the end, without yet wanting to experience it.
