Since 2015, French screenwriter Vincent Dugomier has published, alongside cartoonist Benoît Ers, Les Enfants de la résistance. On the eve of the release of the 10th volume of the series, the author launched a new project adapted from podcast Resist, which he developed with Le Lombard editions.
He chose to tell the authentic testimonies of real resistant children in comics. To do this, the author said he amassed an impressive quantity of documents and stories which were initially used for the podcast. Four years later, he gave new life to these testimonies in Children of the Resistance Tell[1], where we discover the culmination of a long research effort.
In this first volume, he traces the story of two children, Josette Torrent (13 years old) and Jean-Jacques Auduc (12 years old). Both contributed through their remarkable actions to the resistance against the German occupation of France during the Second World War.
To create this comic strip, the author of Marsupilami, The omniscient, Urbex, The demons of Alexia, called on the talent of Aurélie Neyret and Marie Duvoisin who respectively illustrate the journey of Josette and Jean-Jacques.
Before embarking on the adventure Aurélie Neyret published The notebooks of Cerise, Coraline, Lulu and Nelson, Malory school, The holidays of Monsieur Rhino. Marie Duvoisin has already published Une femme dans la course, Jukebox motel, Nos embellishes.
From comics to cinema
This series, which is aimed at both adults and young people, is a great educational tool which allows us to approach the history of the war with its social dimensions. Adapted as a podcast lasting around fifteen minutes each, it offers new generations testimonies from real resistant children[2].
Given the success of the series, Les enfants de la Résistance has just been adapted for cinema in 2026. Directed by Christophe Barratier, the film brings together a range of actresses and actors including Artus, Gérard Jugnot, Leslie Medina and Pierre Deladonchamps.
